It it surprising that the people of Norway will do business with a guy like Jagdeo, most of the money from Norway will end up in the pockets of Guyana Government officials and their friends.

It seems to me that Mr Jagdeo has been rather smart - getting paid to do nothing. If there are any dunces involved, it's the people in Oslo that have agreed to finance this nonsense. Perhaps the taxpayers of Norway will be less impressed.

"Give forests back to local people to save them .. So concludes a study that's tracked the fate of 80 forests worldwide over 15 years" www.newscientist.com/article/dn17937-give-forests-back-to-local-people-to-save-them.html

Exactly why the Nobel jury chose Elinor Ostrom this year: "Her work challenged the conventional wisdom that common property is poorly managed and should be either regulated by central authorities or privatised, the jury said .. "If we want to halt the degradation of our natural environment and prevent a repetition of the many collapses of natural-resource stocks experienced in the past, we should learn from the successes and failures of common-property regimes. Ostrom's work teaches us novel lessons about the deep mechanisms that sustain cooperation in human societies .. She conducted numerous studies of user-managed fish stocks, pastures, woods, lakes and groundwater basins, and concluded that the outcomes are "more often than not, better than predicted by standard theories," the jury explained.
