		<description>To be clear, Australia&#039;s emissions reductions target is 5% reduction on 2000 levels (a significant increase on 1990 levels).

The Australian Government has said they would consider a target of 25% reduction on 2000 levels if the &#039;rest of the world acts at the Copenhagen climate negotiations&#039; etc.  

It&#039;s a shameful target for a polluting northern country; and shameful it has the support of major environment NGOs like the Australian Conservation Foundation, WWF, and the Climate Institute.

It&#039;s opposed by grassroots climate justice activists across Australia, as is REDD.</description>
