Thanks Pedro. I would normally not write about something I'm not certain about, but I decided to write something about "forests in exhaustion" in January because at the time I could find no publicly available information. I thought that a public discussion about this issue was important. I made a mistake in that post, which I have now corrected - there's a link from the previous post to this one.

I was also surprised by the reply from the Brazilian negotiator.

Just because a discussion about the CDM has been going on for ten years doesn't mean that the CDM is above criticism, or that the CDM has in any way improved. Ten years ago the HFC-23 scam had not yet happened. Introducing "forests in exhaustion" into the CDM would make the CDM even worse.

Just because Bush criticised the Kyoto Protocol doesn't make the Kyoto Protocol any better (in fact it was the US delegation, led by Al Gore, that wrecked the Kyoto Protocol by introducing carbon trading).

This interview with Yvo de Boer by George Monbiot might be of interest:

(Then why write publicly about something you don´t know with certainty? Aren`t there any QA/AC procedures in this website?
Regarding the reply by the Brazilian negotiator, I really find it hard to believe that she/he answered you in that way, since without a doubt they are (and have been for a long time ) one of the more coordinated and strong teams in the UNFCCC -LULUCF negotiations. "Fatally flawed" CDM: please, not again, we had this discussion 10 years ago! (maybe the CDM is as "fatally flawed" as the KP was, according to Bush? - a historically "fatally flawed" statement itself...))
